Factors Contributing to the Risk of Venous Thromboembolism

نویسندگان

چکیده

Both the deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism are classified into venous thromboembolism (VTE). Risk factors for VTE multifactorial with both genetic non-genetic risk factors. Factor V Leiden, Prothrombin, ABO blood group three widely researched mutations highly associated to while there other rarer such as Protein C, S, Antithrombin deficiencies. Race ethnicity, age, sex, diet lifestyle examples of some VTE; however, because may be dependent environmental (such relationship between sex oral contraceptives), their individual association needs further research.

Risk factors for venous thromboembolism.

Until the 1990s, venous thromboembolism (VTE) was viewed primarily as a complication of hospitalization for major surgery (or associated with the late stage of terminal illness). However, recent trials in patients hospitalized with a wide variety of acute medical illnesses have demonstrated a risk of VTE in medical patients comparable with that seen after major general surgery. In addition, epi...

Risk factors for venous thromboembolism.

Risk factors for venous thromboembolism (VTE) are often modifiable and overlap with risk factors for coronary artery disease. Encouraging our patients to adopt a heart-healthy lifestyle by abstaining from cigarettes, maintaining lean weight, limiting red meat intake, and controlling hypertension might lower the risk of pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis (DVT), although a cause-effect r...

Identifying risk factors for venous thromboembolism.

Our understanding of risk factors associated with the development of venous thromboembolism (VTE) has increased steadily over the past 20 years. In the 1980s, the development of VTE was conceptualized in the context of the factors in Virchow’s classic triad that he believed led to venous thrombosis. These factors were injury to the endothelium, alteration in blood flow (particularly stasis/immo...

Postpartum venous thromboembolism: incidence and risk factors.

OBJECTIVE To calculate incidence of postpartum venous thromboembolism by week after delivery and to examine potential risk factors for venous thromboembolism overall and at different times during the postpartum period. METHODS A deidentified health care claims information database from employers, health plans, hospitals, and Medicaid programs across the United States was used to identify deli...

DVT: Venous Thromboembolism 2012 Mechanistic View of Risk Factors for Venous Thromboembolism

Venous thromboembolism is an episodic disease with an annual incidence of 2 to 3/1000 per year that is associated with a high morbidity and mortality. Risk factors for venous thromboembolism come in many guises. They fit into an extended version of Virchow’s triad and they tilt the hemostatic balance toward clot formation. This can be achieved by decreasing blood flow and lowering oxygen tensio...
